Estimated 30 million people are enslaved worldwide or trafficked into brothels. They forced into labour or pushed to the flesh trade.

It is shame that India is standing at fourth spot and almost half of the world modern slaves are in India. All 162 countries, be it developed, developing or under developed the modern slavery still exists. The above pieced of information surveyed by Walk Free, an Australian-based rights group.

Forced Labor : Used for any work or services which people are forced to do against their will under the threat of some form punishment. Most  of the forced labourer are forced to work for:

          5.       Prostitution and sexual exploitation

Human/Sex Trafficking : People are frequently illegally trafficked through the countries for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and  

Bonded labour : Also known as debt bondage is a person's pledge of their labor or services as security for the repayment for a debt.

Brick Kiln, carpet industries, fireworks manufactures are known for hiring child for their service.

 In the western part of India’s capital city, New Delhi, more than 5,000 domestic worker placement agencies operate out of a nondescript neighborhood called Shakurpur Basti. For years, the agencies have flourished by indulging in the business of trafficking minor girls and selling them as domestic slaves in the cities. To expose this racket of trafficking and to uncover their modus operandi, we waited for days with a hidden camera, posing as a family interested in employing a girl.

The agencies liaise with natives of remote villages, mostly from the eastern part of India, who, as “local agents” carry out the first step in the trafficking process. The agents identify underage girls from extremely poor families and lure them to the city with the promise of a good job. Once the girls are in the city, the agents sell them for about Rs. 10000 each to a domestic worker placement agency. The agency then re-sells her to a family as domestic labor.

Mumbai : A Mumbai trader has been arrested for allegedly torturing an 11-year-old who was forced to eat chillies which were also rubbed on her body.

LAHORE: Erum Ramazan, a 10-year-old domestic help, and Azra, 16, were allegedly killed by their employers. 

New Delhi:  A US-based NRI woman was arrested on Thursday for allegedly torturing her domestic help. Arti Jain, 45, was arrested from her Mayur Vihar Phase-I residence in east Delhi. "The victim was working at Jain's house for over four months. She was employed through a  placement agency," a police officer said. The 24-year-old domestic help, who is from West Bengal, told the police that she was burnt by her employer with a hot iron whenever she demanded her salary. The woman has alleged that she was kept confined in the house, and had managed to get out of the house on Wednesday and call out to a neighbour for help.

New Delhi: MP Dhananjay Singh's wife Jagriti Singh, 10 months ago. On Monday, she died after a  particularly savage beating through the Diwali weekend, all because she hadn't woken her employer on time. Jagriti Singh, a dentist who has a three-year-old son, was arrested on Tuesday for the murder of her domestic help and the torture of a minor who also worked for her. Mr Singh has also been arrested for destruction of evidence and abetment to murder.

New Delhi:  A 13-year-old domestic help, who was allegedly assaulted and locked up by her employer, was rescued from Sarojini Nagar in south Delhi last evening. The girl claimed that she was frequently beaten up and kept locked in her room for days by her employer who works as an airhostess.

? Years of a Slaves – I

No, this is neither a pick from the Oscar wining movie ‘12 Years of Slave’ nor from the reel but real. In 21^st century the slavery still exits. Twenty-one million human still treated as slaves on record and as reveled by Steve McQueen in his Oscar acceptance speech. However, of the record you peep at your neighbourhood and you can find it everywhere. A dream for better life ends up with lots of pain and humiliation. Torture, hunger, exploitation and sexual abuse are the part of parcel in the disguise.

In Arabian countries, maids and unskilled labours are treated as slaves. Almost all these people have to work for day and night to fulfill optimism. Their little dream forced them to travel the distance.

Incredibly increasing rate of maid abuse in the Arab countries has raised trepidations over the lack of strict laws. According to a survey conducted by the Saudi magazine, more than three million maids in the Gulf countries are living in awful conditions and more incidents of verbal and physical abuse are reported.

Migrant workers, however, are also important to the global economy, particularly in the developing world. Last year, migrant workers sent $316 billion home to developing countries is more than three times the amount the countries received in formal foreign aid.

1.    Nelfa Baltar, a Filipina maid, secured the conviction of her Egyptian employers in Abu Dhabi after she had been burned with cigarettes on her hands and face and with a lighted match below her eyes.

2.    A Sri Lankan housemaid fled to her embassy in Abu Dhabi after a local housewife had heated a knife on a gas cooker and burned her on the neck, body and arms for breaking a plate. She had been whipped by the husband of the family when she demanded to leave, punched in the chest by the wife for lapses in her work and fed scraps from the kitchen.

3.    An employer tortured her maid to death in an attempt to force her to become better at housework.  

4.    An Emirati woman abused the Ethiopian maid daily after she moved in during Ramadan in Abu Dhabi. She poured boiling water over the maid and tied her up with electrical wire,. The maid was found dead in her employer's bathroom.

5.    Sumiati BT Salan Mustapa used to work for a family in Medina. Mustapa was admitted to a private hospital in Medina injured from head to toe in an unconscious state. The private hospital was unable to treat her serious injuries and she was transferred to the King Fahd hospital. Mustapa’s body “was burned on many places, both legs were almost motionless, some parts of her skin on her head were removed and strong marks of old wounds were on her body including skin loss on lips and head, a fractured middle finger and a cut near an eye.” Mustapa also showed signs of malnutrition or excessive blood loss.

The people from the countries like in the gulf and other Arab world with their enormous easily access wealth and little respect of fellow human are always famous for ill treating their unskilled employs but they are not the only one. In my next blog I will carry out some more chilling incidents.

Effect on World War II

A war considered to be a biggest crime against humanity and use of chemical warhead is even crueler act. The effect of WMD [Weapon of Mass Destruction] is much more severe and leaves horrific trails. Leave alone a life but a few for generations have to suffer from it. Use of CW shows the dishonorable greed of the ruler or ruling establishment. Currently Syria is in the news for such heinous act and that too on its own citizen.

Rockets with toxic agents were launched at the suburbs of the Ghouta region in Syria early on 21st August, 2013, as part of a major bombardment on rebel forces. The Syrian army says the accusations have been fabricated to cover up rebel losses. The main opposition alliance said that more than 1,700 people were killed by the attacks. Casualties are far worse than any of the previous alleged chemical attacks. The bodies bear no visible wounds from gunshots; instead, many display the classic symptoms of a nerve agent attack, with startled, frozen expressions that experts say are reminiscent of Saddam Hussein's 1988 attack on the Kurds at Halabja.

1914: Tear gas

The earliest military uses of chemicals were tear-inducing irritants rather than fatal or disabling poisons. During the first World War, the French army was the first to employ gas, using 26 mm grenades filled with tear gas (ethyl bromoacetate) in August 1914.

1915: Large-scale use and lethal gases

The first instance of large-scale use of gas as a weapon was on 31 January 1915, when Germany fired 18,000 artillery shells containing liquid xylyl bromide tear gas on Russian positions on the Rawka River, west of Warsaw during the Battle of Bolimov. However, instead of vaporizing, the chemical froze and failed to have the desired effect.

British gas attacks

The first use of gas by the British was at the Battle of Loos, 25 September 1915, but the attempt was a disaster. Chlorine, codenamed Red Star, was the agent to be used (140 tons arrayed in 5,100 cylinders), and the attack was dependent on a favorable wind. However, on this occasion the wind proved fickle, and the gas either lingered in no man's land or, in places, blew back on the British trenches. This debacle was compounded when the gas could not be released from all the British canisters because the wrong turning keys were sent with them. Subsequent retaliatory German shelling hit some of those unused full cylinders, releasing more gas among the British troops.

The small quantities of gas delivered, were not even detected by the Germans. The stocks were rapidly consumed and by November a new order was placed by the French military. As bromine was scarce among the Entente allies, the active ingredient was changed to chloroacetone.

1915: Deadly gases

The deficiencies of chlorine were overcome with the introduction of phosgene, which was prepared by a group of French chemists led by Victor Grignard and first used by France in 1915.  Colourless and having an odor likened to "mouldy hay," phosgene was difficult to detect, making it a more effective weapon. Although phosgene was sometimes used on its own, it was more often used mixed with an equal volume of chlorine, with the chlorine helping to spread the denser phosgene.  The Allies called this combination White Star after the marking painted on shells containing the mixture.

1917: Mustard gas

The most widely reported and, perhaps, the most effective gas of the First World War was mustard gas. It was a vesicant that was introduced by Germany in July 1917 prior to the Third Battle of Ypres. The Germans marked their shells yellow for mustard gas and green for chlorine and phosgene; hence they called the new gas Yellow Cross. It was known to the British as HS (Hun Stuff), while the French called it Yperite (named after Ypres)

Although all major combatants stockpiled chemical weapons during the Second World War, the only reports of its use in the conflict were the Japanese use of relatively small amounts of mustard gas and lewisite in China, and very rare occurrences in Europe (for example some sulfur mustard bombs were dropped on Warsaw on 3 September 1939, which Germany acknowledged in 1942 but indicated had been accidental). Mustard gas was the agent of choice, with the British stockpiling 40,719 tons, the Russians 77,400 tons, the Americans over 87,000 tons and the Germans 27,597 tons. The destruction of a cargo ship containing mustard gas led to many casualties in Bari, Italy.

1990s: Persian Gulf War

Shortly after the fighting between Iraq and Coalition Forces in the Persian Gulf War ended in February 1991, reports circulated that Hussein was using chemical agents against rebellious Kurds and Shiite Muslims. The United States intercepted a message ordering the use of chemical weapons against the cities of Najaf and Karbala. U.S. President George H. W. Bush’s response was that such use of chemical weapons would result in air strikes against the Iraqi military organization using the chemicals.

The Dil Less Delhi - The Guilt & the Guts!

Enough written about it and since 16^th December until now all television channels are running fulltime on this horrific incident still I decided to write about it. This blog is sort of my personal E-diary which I am sharing with all and whatever things made me sad or disturbed or even gave me happiness I jotted it down here. Last couple of years I am doing it but never with a mindset that I am wearing now. I am angry and very sad too. It was all about the Gutsy Girl, who raped and killed by six beasts. It is happening everyday and every corner in India and also in other countries too but in India in every half-hour a woman gets raped. Sometime, the women never come forward due to social stigma but hope the Delhi incident may change the outlook. Women should understand that world with you and not with the rapist. Even rapist are thrashed by the hardcore criminal who were lodged in the jail for some other crime. A rapist should face total social boycott. To stop it we all should take a collective measure and men’s are more importantly should involved it in on their own.

The incident that shocked the nation.

On December 16, a Sunday, the victim, a 23-year-old trainee paramedic, and her friend had boarded the bus at night thinking it was a public bus. The privately owned bus, which had tinted glass panes and curtains, ferried children to and from a Delhi public school on weekdays. The officer said driver Ram Singh had told investigators about the Sunday night "fun rides". Same evening, the accused had apparently partied at Ram Singh the main accuser’s home at a south Delhi slum, cooking chicken and drinking heavily, before setting out with the bus. Ram's younger brother Mukesh was at the wheel. Ram, gym assistant Vinay Sharma, fruit seller Pawan Gupta, bus cleaner Akshay Thakur, and the sixth accused, who claims to be a minor, sat inside.

They picked up passengers and robbed one of them, Ram Adhar, of his gold chain, the officer said. Here's the subsequent sequence of events as mentioned in the FIR, which will be part of the chargesheet to be filed on January 3 in a fast-track court, seeking the death penalty for all the accused. Around 9, the accused spot the couple waiting at Munirka bus stop and ask them their destination. Told that it's Dwarka, they say the bus too is headed that way. The unsuspecting couple board it. They mistake three of the accused, sitting in passenger seats, for commuters. The cleaner shuts the door.

The accused pass lewd remarks at the victim, asking why she's alone with a man late at night. When the friend protests, he is attacked. The friend beats up two accused but the gym assistant attacks him with an iron rod. Three accused drag the woman to the back seat and rape her; the others join in later. The victim fights back and bites the hands of three accused, who get angry and brutalise her with an iron rod. According to the doctors at Safdarjung Hospital “It appears to be that a rod was inserted into her and it was pulled out with so much force that the act brought out her intestines... That is probably the only thing that explains such severe damage to her intestines.” Hair and blood samples of the victim have been found on Ram's nails.

After 45 minutes of brutality, the accused strip the duo and throw them out of the moving bus on a roadside after taking away their cellphones and wallets. Ram asks Mukesh to run the couple over. Ram takes the wheel from Mukesh and drops the other accused home. He cleans the bloodstains before parking the bus at its owner's place in Noida in the early hours. Two eyewitnesses have claimed to have seen Ram destroy evidence. Security cameras on the main highway NH8 allegedly furnished footage which is helping the police.

The merciless rape case has horrified a nation that has become jaded to such assaults against women. Sexual violence has long been a serious and widespread problem in India, where perpetrators of such crimes often go unpunished.

It is not the culprit but we too also guilty for her suffering, which ultimately ends with the death. We are accustomed to the too much ‘chalta hai’ attitude and never realise that something like this always happening and going to happen. We cannot rely on our government, never helped by the politicians, we cannot reach for our administration and woefully police always unavailable when needed, true like Hindi movies. The movement taken place should continue and hope something like this never happen again. However, the series of event thereafter shows that all men’s are not men but only bunch of beast. There is never ending news breaking out from every parts of the country, it indicate that we are going to die with the hope and never taste its fulfillment.

Murdered By The Law!!

An innocent woman was sentenced to death by the law of the land and executed perfectly by the doctors. It sounds bizarre but it is true. It is not something that happened in some backward countries from Africa or Asia but happened very much in a so-called developed country and I am not talking about euthanasia. The incident happened in much developed country like Ireland.

Savita Halappanavar, a 31-year-old citizen of India, originally from Belgaum, in the Indian State of Karnataka, and who was working in Ireland as a dentist, died at University Hospital Galway. On October 21, Savita, a 31-year-old Indian dentist, was admitted to Galway University Hospital in severe pain. She was 17 weeks pregnant; within hours, doctors determined she was miscarrying. Nevertheless, they could hear a faint fetal heartbeat and refused to perform an abortion.

As Savita’s condition worsened and her suffering increased, she begged for the operation. She was told: “This is a Catholic country.” By the time the fetus was declared dead and removed, Savita had advanced blood poisoning. On October 28, she, too, was pronounced dead. Murdered is the correct word.

Ireland’s constitution bans all abortions, but 20 years ago the country’s high court ruled that an exception had to be made when there was a “real and substantial risk” of maternal death. That risk must be balanced against the risk to the fetus — even, apparently, if the fetus has no chance of surviving.

It reminds, the infamous case of 1992 involved a 14-year-old rape victim who became suicidal after the state had prohibited her from traveling to England for an abortion. Her case led to mass demonstrations of support for abortion reform in Ireland and the unequivocal Irish Supreme Court ruling that lifesaving abortion services are legal. In other words, the Supreme Court interpreted the Irish Constitution to require abortion when necessary to save a woman’s life.

Under Irish law, according to the Offences against the Person Act 1861, as amended, an unlawful act of abortion is a criminal offence punishable by imprisonment. Following a ruling of the Supreme Court of Ireland in 1992—now known in Ireland as the X case—terminations are allowed under certain circumstances, where "a pregnant woman's life was at risk because of pregnancy, including the risk of suicide".

The human rights court found this to be a clear violation of my client’s rights under the European Convention on Human Rights and in 2010 demanded that Ireland reform its abortion laws. The case was considered a major victory for women.

The court ruling has not been codified into law. Halappanavar's death led to protests at Galway, particularly from the local Indian expatriate community. The University Hospital is currently a subject of several investigations. Halappanavar had been one of the organisers of the annual Galway Diwali festival, which was cancelled in response to her death.

The big question was how the doctors can perform such acts and how can be a noble professional turned to a so unethical. How come a doctor take out the rule book to a patients who is dying, why then they denied the euthanasia. So, it is not Muslims or Hindus but in the name of religion, murder committed everywhere.
